The numbers above are fiat equivalents of stored value, hardwork, hopes and dreams — stolen from various cryptocurrency exchanges from around the world. Lets try and ensure that it doesn’t happen to you.

Here are some Do’s and Don’ts that go a long way to help you protect your stack.

Do’s:

  1. Use Secure Wallets: Choose wallets from reputable providers with strong security features.
  2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Use 2FA for added security wherever possible.
  3. Store Private Keys Safely: Use hardware wallets and keep recovery phrases offline.
  4. Update Software Regularly: Keep wallet applications and devices updated.
  5. Use a VPN: Connect through a VPN on public Wi-Fi.
  6. Enable Alerts: Turn on withdrawal and transaction alerts for your wallet.
  7. Create Strong Passwords: Use complex and unique passwords for all crypto-related accounts.
  8. Review Permissions: Regularly check and revoke unnecessary permissions on connected applications.
  9. Educate Yourself: Stay informed about the latest scams and threats.
  10. Use Multisig Wallets: Consider multisignature wallets for added protection.

Don’ts:

  1. Don’t Share Sensitive Information: Never share private keys, seed phrases, or passwords.
  2. Don’t Click Suspicious Links: Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited messages or emails.
  3. Don’t Use Public Wi-Fi Without Security: Avoid using public Wi-Fi without a VPN.
  4. Don’t Download Unknown Files: Don’t install files or apps from untrusted sources.
  5. Don’t Leave Devices Unsecured: Lock your devices with passwords or biometrics.
  6. Don’t Trust Unverified Support: Only contact wallet support through official channels.
  7. Don’t Ignore Security Updates: Update wallet apps and devices as soon as new versions are available.
  8. Don’t Use Weak Passwords: Avoid simple or reused passwords.
  9. Don’t Store Private Keys Online: Never store sensitive data in cloud services.
  10. Don’t Overlook Backup Security: Use secure, fireproof, and waterproof storage for recovery backups.
